Blinda is a project of eight partner organizations from Slovenia, Germany and Croatia.

The aim of the project is to develop technologies that will enable blind and partially sighted people to easily access audiobooks and other audio content, through the Blinda mobile applications, in accordance with the Marrakesh Treaty.

According to estimation made by EBU / European Blind Union there are over 30 million blind and partially sighted persons in Europe.
The project is funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ funding programme.

Goals in accordance with the Marrakesh treaty

Blinda mobile application grants eligible users access to audiobooks in accessible formats, with all three Marrakesh treaty goals in mind.

  1. Improved awareness of the challenges faced by the print disabled community and persons with disabilities.
  2. Greater access to education by offering access to educational materials in accessible formats.
  3. Enhanced social integration and cultural participation by having equal access to common sources of knowledge and information, which is important not only for learning, but also for social inclusion and cultural participation.

Blinda mobile application enables blind, visually impaired or otherwise print disabled individuals to borrow and listen to audiobooks.

Audiobooks are provided by authorized entities in compliance with the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled (»Marrakesh treaty«) and Directive (EU) 2017/1564 of 13 September 2017 (»Directive«) in each EU member state under the applicable conditions of use.

The Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired, or Otherwise Print Disabled (MVT) is the latest addition to the body of international copyright treaties administered by WIPO.
It has a clear humanitarian and social development dimension and its main goal is to create a set of mandatory limitations and exceptions for the benefit of the blind, visually impaired and otherwise print disabled (VIPs).
